What We Carry
With What We Carry, Museion presents an exhibition that connects contemporary art with the guiding values of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad: inclusion, sustainability, and legacy.
At the center are new commissioned works and research projects by Sonia Leimer and Christian Kosmas Mayer, complemented by an extraordinary collection of 43 Olympic torches (1936–2024). The exhibition explores the relationship between the design and symbolism of the torches and themes such as power, visibility, and cultural heritage.
Like the Olympic flame itself, the legacy of these values is passed from hand to hand – a living exchange where art and sport meet.
Through this exhibition, Museion supports the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol in strengthening the cultural identity of the region and consolidating its role as a hub for international exchange.
At the heart of the exhibition is Sonia Leimer’s expansive 50-meter-long sculpture in the shape of an infinity symbol. It evokes a running track and simultaneously serves as a pedestal for a collection of 42 Olympic torches, provided on loan by the Olympic Aid and Sport Promotion Project. The dynamic sculptural form uses the torches as a starting point for reflections on continuity and change, as well as the evolving values of the Olympic Games over time.

In this extreme mountain run along the horseshoe shaped Hufeisen tour in the Sarntal Alps, the participants can choose between four routes of various degrees of difficulty, ranging from the “easy” trail run to the “most extreme experience in the Alps”.
All adventurers share the same goal: to complete the run and arrive on the Prati del Talvera in Bolzano or on the Piazza Chiesa in Sarentino as a finisher.
